Geography

At St Andrew’s CE Primary School, we believe that geography is an essential subject that helps our pupils develop a deeper understanding and fascination about the world they live in. As a maintained primary school, our mission is to nurture and inspire our whole school community, using the guiding principles of love, respect, and trust.

Our vision is for every child to “let their light shine” and reach their full potential. This ethos is woven throughout our geography curriculum, as we encourage pupils to explore diverse places, people, resources, and environments with curiosity and creativity.

Developing Geographical Knowledge and Skills

Through our geography lessons, pupils at St Andrew’s will:

• Gain an excellent knowledge of where places are and what they are like, both locally and globally.
• Develop a deep understanding of how places are interconnected and how human and physical environments are interrelated.
• Build an extensive base of geographical knowledge and vocabulary to effectively communicate their findings.
• Become fluent in complex geographical enquiry, applying questioning skills and using analytical techniques to reach clear conclusions.
• Demonstrate significant levels of originality, imagination, and creativity in their interpretations and representations of geographical concepts.
• Hone their fieldwork and other geographical skills, fueling their passion for discovery and understanding the world.
• Express well-balanced opinions on current and contemporary issues in society and the environment, rooted in their geographical knowledge.
